BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

J. Mitzi Kolar is director of the graduate degree program in piano pedagogy at San Diego State University, where she teaches piano performance, class piano, and piano pedagogy. In 1997, Kolar was named the distinguished professor for the College of Professional Studies & Fine Arts. Professor Kolar authored Music in Education, which is published and distributed by Yamaha Corporation of America and co-authored Celebrate Piano! published by The Frederick Harris Music Co. Under the auspices of a grant from the National Science Foundation, During the 2003-2004 terms, Kolar worked with the EdCenter of Computational Science and Engineering at SDSU to use supercomputers in the evaluation of piano skills.  In Spring 2005, Dr. Kolar was awarded a sabbatical leave from San Diego State University.  Professor Kolar completed a pedagogy tour that included sessions at Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina and the University of Montana, Missoula, Montana; teacher workshops in Greenville, South Carolina; Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada; Spokane, Washington; Portland, Oregon; and Corpus Christi and McAllen, Texas; a presentation at the Music Teachers National Association convention in Seattle, Washington; showcases at state music teachers conventions in Arizona, Texas, and California; and a presentation with her co-authors at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy in Oak Brook (Chicago), Illinois.  In addition, Professor Kolar began preparation for grant applications.
